Lent and Easter 2010

Lent is the season in the Christian calendar between Ash Wednesday and Easter Day. It lasts forty days (if you don't count the Sundays). Traditionally it has been a period of fasting, reflection and preparation for Easter. In Audlem each year its a very ecumenical season. Ash Wednesday in 2010 was on 17 February.

Ecumenical Lent Lunches have been served in the hall on each of the Sundays in Lent. A simple lunch (soup and a roll) has been followed by the opportunity to make a donation to charity. Over £700 has been raised, which will be used to both buy a ShelterBox and support the local work of the YMCA.

This year's ecumenical Lent Course, entitled 'Finding God in the Ordinary', has been led by the Rev'd Adrian Leighton. The five-session course was held each Wednesday between 24 February and 24 March.

On Maundy Thursday two alternative occasions were offered. From 7.30 pm, there was worship and a meal combined, and at 8.00 pm, a traditional Maundy Thursday communion service. On Good Friday there there was the usual village procession, with a cross. On Easter Day, services were held in each of the village churches.
