Circuit news – September 2026 A summary of the recent Circuit meeting written by Geoff Dickinson below:
The Circuit meeting approved a grant of £500 to the recently formed Memory Cafe at Haslington.
Following the departure of Heather Staniland as Circuit Layworker Co-ordinator we welcome Dot Milner into the new role of Circuit Support and Co-ordination Manager, looking after both administration and dayworker management. Dot will be assisted in the administration function by Jo Reeves, our Circuit Book-keeper, who will take on an additional role as administration assistant.
The Circuit meeting has approved an extension of the contract of John Wilson, Lay Pastor in the Sandbach and Alsager areas, for a further two years from September 2027.
We congratulate Jane Parker-Aiken, Lay Pastor in the Crewe Section, who has now completed her Connexional Lay Pastor Course at Cliff College. We look forward to a commissioning service in due course. Briony Myles-Hook has now stood down as Circuit Steward and we thank her for her contribution to Circuit life, especially in the area of property. We welcome three new Circuit stewards to the Leadership team, Rachel Dimelow (Tallarn Green), Peter Goringe (Woore), and Lesley Peake (Wesley Place). Malcolm Crook has also joined the Circuit Leadership Team as Local preacher’s Representative. As Ellen Ceika and Geoff Dickinson are due to stand down as Circuit Stewards in August 2027, there will be a further round in the Spring of 2027 to recruit additional stewards to the team.
Crewe and Rope Green Network are holding a Showcase of the activities which take place across the Network on Saturday 3rd October 2026 10am-2pm at the Haven. They will be sharing ideas, advice and invitations to join some of the great work already going on in our churches in that area. Please come along and see what is happening.
The St John’s Willaston building is now being used by several community groups as well as the Pre-school. The Saturday Coffee Morning continues to be well supported and is raising significant sums for Willaston community causes. Following the well attended service on Good Friday two further services are planned:
27 September 2026 at 3pm – Harvest songs of praise led by Rev. Helen Stubbs 22 December 2026 at 3pm – a community Christmas Service led by Rev. Jo Mulliner
The Crewe by Farndon Church is rediscovering its spirituality in the Celtic tradition. The folks at Crewe by Farndon recently completed their pilgrimage along the North Wales Pilgrims Way, the last leg finishing on Bardsey Island. Their journey has been reported in the Methodist Recorder and the local press.
The Crewe by Farndon Church Council met on 11 September and agreed to cease to meet as a Methodist Society and transition to be a District and Circuit project under the NPNP programme.
The Circuit meeting agreed to this proposal in principle whilst recognising that the details of the Governance of the project had still to be fully agreed. It is likely that a Management Board similar to that at The Haven will be set up with representatives of the Crewe by Farndon Celtic Church, the Circuit and the District. Please hold this new direction in your prayers going forward.
The Methodist Church at Woore celebrated its 150th Anniversary over the weekend of 19/20 September. An interesting exhibition presented the history of the chapel and the village of Woore from 1876. Interestingly the congregations of the Woore Wesleyan and Woore Primitive Chapels started to worship together regularly in 1927; 5 years before Methodist Union. The Primitive Methodist Chapel was situated just behind the Wesleyan Chapel on the site now occupied by Snapes bakery. The current chapel is an old schoolroom as the original chapel had to be demolished in the 1970’s. The Church at Woore is developing its mission with the start of Little Sparrows toddler group in October.
